a Korean native, has developed her own voice in contemporary cello performance, blending her classical training with jazz, Korean traditional music, noise, and extended techniques. In addition to her own projects, Okkyung has performed and recorded with numerous artists such as Nels Cline, Anthony Coleman, Mark Dresser, Shelley Hirsch, Susie Ibarra, Vijay Iyer, Eyvind Kang, Christian Marclay, Raz Mesinai, Min Xiao-fen, Thurston Moore, Ikue Mori, Lawrence D. "Butch" Morris, Jim O'Rourke, Zeena Parkins, Marc Ribot, Elliott Sharp, Beth Orton, Cibo Matto, and John Zorn. Her debut album, Nihm, was released on Tzadik in 2005. An album of duets with Christian Marclay was just released on the My Cat is an Alien label. Upcoming releases include a solo album on Thurston Moore's Ecstatic Peace label and duets with Aki Onda.
